DT 05 – Bill Harrop Balloon Safari

home > day tours > dt 05 – bill harrop balloon safari

Introduction

If you're going to do it - do it in unassailable style

It's sunrise. The silence of flight is punctuated only by the occasional blast of the powerful burners and the faint call of a bird or animal far beneath. The thrill is indescribable.

You're sipping fine champagne while hovering gently above the tree tops of the beautiful Magalies River Valley, or drifting majestically high above the Magaliesberg range, just 45 km north of Johannesburg's northern suburbs, a region boasting some of the best ballooning weather in the world. The exceptional peace of this unique and almost supernatural view of the world will forever remain as a truly cherished memory.

Tourist Attractions

The Bill Harrop Balloon Safari will visit the following tourist attractions:

  • Bill Harrop Balloon Safaris
  • Lion Park

Time of Year

  • Throughout the year.

Proposed Itinerary

A free lance tour & safari guide from Explore Africa, will meet clients at their Guesthouse.  Clients will be transported for the day in a small luxury bus with all the relevant transport permits. Have you ever flown in a balloon? What an amazing experience – the roaring of the burner as you take off on a pre-dawn flight, the silence while soaring high above the ground, but low enough so that you can see everything – getting a real “bird’s eye view” of the landscape below. This is what this balloon safari is all about. The flight will last about one hour and the total duration of the tour from check-in to departure for you next destination is about 3 to 5 hours (depending whether one wants to hurry or relax after the fight) plus transport time.

We will leave very early (± 04:00 – 05:00) and drive in the direction of the Hartbeespoortdam and the surrounding Magaliesberg mountain range.

Bill Harrop’s “Origional” Balloon Safaris is a family business run by Bill Harrop, his wife Mary, son Sam and daughter Sarah working in partnership with over 60 full time, part time, contract and casual staff. Hot coffee, tea and biscuits will be served as guests check in at the newly built, well appointed Clubhouse Pavilion at sunrise while flight numbers are assigned and tickets is validated. Scenic flights depart at sunrise from the Pavilion and Restaurant in the Magalies River Valley bordering Gauteng and North West Province .

Only qualified and experienced professional pilots will be entertaining you to one of the most memorably enjoyable experiences of your life.

Warm clothing should be worn for the chilly early morning but it should be "peel-able" because the sun, excitement and probably the champagne will soon warm you. Comfortable shoes (no high heels or open sandals) is recommended, and if you are tall or a little thin on top (like Bill Harrop himself), wear a hat.

And as Bill Harrop said it himself: “If you’re going to do it, do it in unassailable style. It’s sunrise. The silence is only punctuated by the occasional blast of the powerful burners and the faint call of a bird or animal far beneath. The thrill is indescribable. Picture yourselves sipping champagne as you hover gently above the treetops, or soar high above the mountain peaks.

After landing, savour a delectable champagne breakfast at our new, traditionally exquisite and beautifully appointed Clubhouse Pavilion and Restaurant where you will be filled with the warmest of memories.”

From here we will drive a short distance to our next venue at the Lion Park where you will have the opportunity to go on a guided drive to see and learn more about the wildlife indigenous to Africa . A trip on a safari vehicle with a trained guide will take you into the bushveld where you will see various antelope species, hyena, cheetah and our four lion prides, while learning interesting and amazing facts about the wildlife indigenous to Africa .

You can also take a walk through a fascinating world of Cubs and view various animal species. Here you will have the unique opportunity to play with the lion cubs and to learn about lions from the well-trained guides. Wonderful photo opportunities will capture this rare experience forever. Don’t miss out on this close encounter with these beautiful animals. The feeding platform will also allow you to touch and feed the giraffes at eye level providing guests with a truly magnificent experience.

With this our tour ends and we will return for Pretoria and to your Guesthouse.
