Safari Destinations – Zanzibar

Introduction

Lying off the coast of Tanzania +/- 80km north of Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar is one of the undiscovered jewels on the African coast. White, powdery beaches lined with giant coconut palm swaying in the breeze. Azure blue seas beckoning in the distance, MAGIC.

However those who expect something like Mauritius or the Comores will be in for a surprise. Not yet on the same level of development, Zanzibar attracts the more adventurous traveler. Yet Zanzibar with its mix of un spoilt beaches, aquamarine, warm seas, incredible culture and interesting history, will not be a secret for much longer. Hotel accommodation on the Island is well established with a wide variety to choose from, with its prices to suite the economically minded to the more discerning tourist.

Accommodation ranges from S.A compatible three star hotels in stonetown to more relaxed and unsophisticated guesthouses on the remote beaches.

Zanzibar with ancient dhows festooned, with antique carpets and silks, men in flowing robes, women in Buibui's and the ever present call of the muezzin, is a place of mystic and romance.

Just imagine being the first to welcome the rays of the new sun on the whole of East Africa.

The Magic of the moment and the allure and mystique of Zanzibar will definitely overwhelm you, here you can feel the spirit, and you are one with nature.

Climate

The climate of Zanzibar is dominated by the movements of the Indian Ocean, monsons, and characterized by wet and dry seasons. The Northeast Monsoons blow from November / December to February / March, and the Southwest Monsoons blow from June to September / October. The main rains fall from mid March to the end of May, and there is a short rainy season in November.

Humidity is generally quite high, although this can be relieved by winds and sea breezes. Temperatures do not vary greatly throughout the year, with daytime averages around 28°C from June to October and around 28°C from December to February.
