SB01 - Chobe-Falls - Safari

home > self drive safaris > Bussie - Chobe Falls

Introduction

The Chobe National Park, which is the second largest national park in Botswana and covers 10,566 square km, has one of the greatest concentrations of game found on the African continent. Its uniqueness in the abundance of wildlife and the true African nature of the region, offers a safari experience of a lifetime.

Chobe is proud of, and very famous for, its abundance of elephants – the highest concentration to be found anywhere in Africa.

Chobe is also famous for its huge herds of buffalo, its rich bird life and, not least, for its exquisite sunset boat cruises, a wildlife experience not to be missed. Explore the Chobe Game Reserve by boat as well as by game viewing vehicles and also pay a visit to the world renowned Victoria Falls.

"Hyped up" since 1855 when Dr. David Livingstone first set eyes on Victoria Falls, today the rumbling of 33 million cubic meters per second flowing over the fall in peak season, still reminds us that this is one of the finest natural spectacles on earth! A World Heritage Site and one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World, this is the largest curtain of falling water on the planet.

A game farm with the following species can also be viewed while visiting: Leopard, Kudu, Wildebeest, Tsetsebe, Zebra, Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Impala, Duiker, Steenbok, Warthog, Hippopotamus and Crocodile. Early morning you leave towards Francistown and Nata, North Gate Lodge, situated in the heart of Nata, amongst a forest of Llala Palms en route to the Okavango Delta or Chobe Game Reserve. This is the ideal stop over after a long journey, or a great way start a new adventure. European style cuisine (or be adventurous and try the fantastic traditional cuisine), ice cold drinks from the fully stocked bar, or just relax by the cooling waters of the sparkling pool. We will also visit the Nata Bird Sanctuary The nearby Nata Bird Sanctuary is a community project and a must to visit - 165 bird species including flamingoes and pelicans.  Sowa Pan with its unique beauty and beaches of rolled quartz pebbles also offers good birding opportunities.

We will overnight here for one night only.

Day 3 - 5

Today we will drive North towards Kasane where you will stay at the Chobe Safari Lodge for the next 3 days. Chobe Safari Lodge is situated in Kasane on the banks of Chobe River and sharing a border with Chobe National Park . Right on our doorstep four African countries ( Botswana , Namibia , Zimbabwe and Zambia ) meet.

Here you will enjoy 3 wonderful days exploring the natural beauty of this area with game drives into the Chobe National Park , a day visit to one of the seven wonders of the world, the Victoria Water Falls via Kazungula where you will leave and enter Botswana with the ferry over the Zambezi river. This is also the only place in Africa where the borders of 4 different countries comes together. You will also join other visitors on the very popular 3 hour Sunset boat on the Chobe river.

We will stay here for three nights.

(3 Nights in River or Safari room, 3 x Dinner, 3 x Breakfast, 1 x Game drive, 1 x Boat cruise, 2 hour private boat trip, Vic Falls day trip and 3 x Park fees included in package.)

Day 6

Today you will start driving down south back in the direction of South Africa . From the small town of Pandamatenga down to Nata, you will again experience the very poor road condition and it helps a lot if you can point out the difference between the ears of a Kudu and that of a donkey. This will give you an idea on the depth of the potholes.

From Nata it is all good driving towards Francistown and your next stopover at the Woodlands campsite. Here we will enjoy a nice farewell braai under the Botswana sky for the last time together and remember some of the wonderful things we experiences in the last few days.

We will overnight here for one night only.  (Cottage accommodation, Dinner & Breakfast included in package.)
