SB 04 - Pilanesberg Nature Tour (5 days)

home > small bus tours > pilanesburg nature tour

Introduction

An abundance of wild life proliferate in 580 km of diverse and arresting bushveld terrain. The park is home to healthy populations of lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant and buffalo - Africa's "Big Five".

A wide variety of rare and common species exist like the nocturnal brown hyaena, the fleet-footed cheetah, the majestic sable, as well as giraffe, zebra, hippo and crocodile, to mention but a few.

The De Wildt Cheetah and Wildlife Trust has received world-wide acclaim for the success of its cheetah and wild dog captive-breeding programmes. Unique management techniques developed over the years have resulted in the birth of over 750 cheetah cubs and more than 500 wild dogs, as well as numbers of other rare species such as brown hyaena, suni antelope, red and blue duiker and riverine rabbit.

Day 2

Day 3

We will leave early morning and drive to Hartbeespoortdam, surrounded by the majesty of the Magaliesberg mountain range. Early work on the dam began around late 1895. Construction was on and off over the years up until 1923 when a young engineer took over the building of the wall. The Dam was constructed in 1925. The Crocodile and Magalies Rivers leads into the Dam and the capacity is 205 million cubic metres and its shoreline, when full, is about 56km. The Hartbeespoort Dam was built as an irrigation dam for the surrounding agricultural areas. The Dam Wall is the only example of a Roman Triumphal Arch Styled Wall in South Africa .

From here we will drive a few kilometer further to the Elephant Sanctuary, surrounded by natural indigenous bush and is home to impala, klipspringer, baboons, porcupine, caracal, leopard, a host of other small mammals, 350 bird species and, of course, four magnificent African Elephants. Here you will be able to interact and learn more about this beautiful animal.

For lunch (Included in package) we will stop at the Bosvelder Restaurant where we will enjoy real African hospitality and meals before leaving for our first overnight stop at Manyane camp. This camp is situated next to the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in the North West Province , adjacent to Sun City . Set in the crater of a long extinct volcano, the Park ranks among the largest of the parks in South Africa (it is in fact the fourth largest park) and covers an area of 55 000 hectare. The beauty of Pilanesberg is reflected in a large central lake, the Mankwe Dam. Over time, wind and water have carved a spectacular landscape with rocky outcrops, open grasslands, wooded valleys and thickets. Pilanesberg National Park accommodates virtually every mammal of southern Africa . This is also home to the Big Five.

The next day after breakfast we will leave for an early morning game drive, look for the Big Five and enjoy nature at own leisure. In the afternoon we will go back to camp for lunch, relax or take a swim before leaving on a guided evening game drive into the reserve.

We will stay here for two nights.  (Safari Tents, Breakfast, Dinner included in package.)   (Lunch @ Pilansberg not included in package.)

Day 4

We will leave the camp after a warm breakfast, enjoy our last game drive before leaving the reserve on our way back to Pretoria . After a stroll through the Chameleon Village flee market we will visit the De Wildt Cheetah breeding center where you will have the chance to interact and learn more about the fastest animal on earth.

With this our tour ends and we will depart for Pretoria and our overnight accommodation.

We will stay here for one night.

.  (Accommodation, Dinner and Breakfast included in package.)  (Lunch not included in package.)
