This safari is a must to experience at least once in your lifetime – the migration of the Wildebeest and Zebra in the Serengeti and a visit to Ngorongoro Crater will stay in your thought till the end of time. The journey leads us through Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and back.

Full itinerary

Day 0      11 Jul 2021  

Everybody meets at Sebe Sebe Lodge close to Stockpoort border Post. Martin Slabbert, owner of Explore Africa Adventures and fully qualified and experienced safari guide will do the introductions and briefing. Chalet, dinner and breakfast (drinks excluded) are included in the accommodation package.

Day 1      12 Jul 2021      +- 240 km 

We leave RSA, cross the border into Botswana and make our way to Khama Rhino sanctuary. This is a beautiful unspoiled campsite with good ablution facilities. Camping included.    

Day 2      13 Jul 2021      +- 470 km          

Drive north to Elephants Sands north of Nata The campsite is situated on a beautiful waterhole where you can injoy the many elephants that come to drink. Supper are available as an optional extra. Camping included. 

Day 3      14 Jul 2021      +- 250 km

After an optional breakfast, we leave for Kazangula where we will camp on the banks of the Chobe river. Included is a sunset boatcruise, with a optional dinner at the lodge. Good ablution and electricity are available.     

Day 4      15 Jul 2021      +- 390 km                 

We leave early morning, cross via ferry into Zambia. We change money in Livingstone before we continue to our overnight campsite close to the town of Monze. 

Day 5      16 Jul 2021      +- 200 km

We leave for Lusaka where we fill up on fuel and supplies before we depart for te campsite on the eastern outskirts of Lusaka, close to the airport. Good ablution facilities in a very quiet area. (Camping included in the accommodation package, upgrade possible at own cost).

Day 6      17 Jul 2021      +- 560 km

Drive along the Great East Road to Chipata and camp about 5 km out of town. Pub, restaurant facilities and electricity are available. Before we go to the campsite, we will fill up on fuel, food and drinks at the local Spar. (Camping included in accommodation package).

Day 7      18 Jul 2021      +- 130 km

After an (optional) breakfast at the pub, we leave mid-morning for South Luangwa Park, where we will camp outside the park on the banks of the Luangwa River. The campsite has a beautiful bar and swimming pool as well as electricity.

Day 8      19 Jul 2021      +- 100 km 

We will make our way into the park for a game drive along the river and all the waterholes. You can also go on an optional (50$p/p) night drive starting at 16:00 in the campsite and coming back at 20:00. According to all other clients who did it, it is absolutely worth it. (Camping, park entrance and vehicle fee included).

Day 9      20 Jul 2021         

Today you can relax, do washing, visit the markets in town, fill up your vehicle, or go back on a game drive in the park at your own cost.

Day 10      21 Jul 2021      +- 420 km                      

We leave early in the morning and travel back to Chipata, cross into Malawi via Machinji border post, off to Lilongwe and camp on the shores of Lake Malawi at Senga Bay. (Camping fee included)

Day 11      22 Jul 2021      +- 290 km       

We can go on an optional boat cruise to one of the islands, snorkel or swim in the lake and leave around 11:00 and travel north to yet another beautiful campsite on the lake, exploring the markets and the scenery along the way. (Camping fee included).

Day 12&13      23-24 Jul 2021      +- 230 km  

We leave our campsite and head further north to Chitimba Beach were we will stay for the next 2 nights. One of the highlights of the safari is the winding 4x4 track up the mountain to the Livingstonia Mission and the breathtaking views of the lake, drinking a cold one at Mushroom Farm and visit a waterfall or two.

Day 14      25 Jul 2021      +- 330 km                      

Leave Lake Malawi early morning for a rather long day’s drive, cross the border into Tanzania and overnight at Utengule coffee estate close to Mbeya. Chalets, dinner and breakfast are included in the accommodation package.

Day 15      26 Jul 2021      +- 380 km 

We will set up camp tonight at the Old Farm House about 50 km before Iringa. Optional upgrade to a chalet as well as dinner for your own account, depending availability.

Day 16      27 Jul 2021      +- 290 km 

We leave Kisolanza nad make our way via Iringa to Dodoma, the capital city of Tanzania. We will stock up on supplies and fuel and overnight at the new Dodoma Horel. Supper are for your own account. 

Day 17      28 Jul 2021      +- 280 km

After breakfast, we make our way to north via Lake Manyara to Kudu lodge at Karatu where we will stay for two nights.   

Day 18      29 Jul 2021      +- 0 km

Today you visit (optional, cost around 180 US$ p/p) the Ngorongoro Crater on rented game viewers and return mid-afternoon to our campsite at Kudu Lodge.  Excursion to the crater is not included in the package.

Day 19-22      30-31 Jul, 1-2 Aug 2021      +- 500 km

Leaving Karatu, we travel on a terrible road via Naabi Gate and Seronera to the North Western part of the Serengeti National Park where we will spend the next four nights. (NOTE: The transit fees through the Ngorongoro Crater Conservancy is excluded from the package +- 180 US$ per vehicle with 2 occupants. NB – If your vehicle Tara mass is above 2000kg, the cost is around 320 US$). We will visit a traditional Maasai village on route, be prepared to pay +- $10 p/p for a tour through the village. (The first night is at a public campsite at Lobo and the next three nights camping wild on the banks of the Mara River). No electricity or ablution facilities are available on the Mara River, you have to be self-sufficient for the duration of our stay along the Mara. We will spend some time along the Mara looking for an opportunity to experience a river crossing by the migrating herds of wildebeest. (ALL VEHICLE ENTRY FEES, CAMPING FEES AND PARK ENTRY FEES ARE EXCLUDED FROM THE ACCOMODATION PACKAGE, TO BE PAID BY VISA (PREF) OR MASTER CARD UPON ENTRANCE).

Day 23-24      3-4 Aug 2021      +-350 km                        

Leave the Serengeti for the town of Mwanza where we will stay in a hotel for the next two nights. We can take the time to discover the town, service and/or clean the vehicles, or enjoy a day on the beach. Accommodation and breakfast are included in accommodation package.

Day 25-26      5-6 Aug 2021      +-370 + 460 km 

During the next two days, we make our way to the lakeside town of Kigoma. Halfway we will overnight in a hotel in Tabora as no camping facilities are available. We will however camp on the edge of Lake Tanganyika in Kigoma town. Tabora hotel accommodation, breakfast at hotel and camping is included in the package.

Day 27      7 Aug 2021

We will visit Gombe NP and track the chimpanzees. Boat trip, guide fee and Park entrance fees works out to about 160 US$ p/p for the day. Boat fee is payable at the campsite – cash, Park entrance and guide fee is payable by C/card, upon entrance). Surely something to look forward to.

Day 28      8 Aug 2021      +- 460 km                 

We travel south towards Katavi NP, where we will camp on the outskirts of the park. 

Day 29      9 Aug 2021      +-200 km             

We leave for the town of Kipili to camp for the next two nights on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Diving, skiing, snorkel  and jacuzzi are available. 

Days 30      10 Aug 2021              

We enjoy the campsite, or do some of the activities on offer at Lakeshore Lodge.

Day 31      11 Aug 2021      +- 200 km

We cross the border at Kasesya into Zambia and camp close to the town of Mbala in Zambia. Camping fee included.                         

Day 32      12 Aug 2021      +- 380 km

We travel via Kasama (shopping at Shoprite for supplies) to Kapishya hot springs and stay there for two nights. Relax in the hot springs and pay a visit to Shiwa Ngandu, Colonel Steward Gore Brown´s old residence, also called The Africa House. (Camping included in accommodation package, chalets available, excluding).

Day 33      13 Aug 2021      +- 0 km

Day at leisure at the campsite. 

Day 34      14 Aug 2021      +- 480 km     

We are now homeward bound and travel to the Mkushi area where we will overnight. Bar and restaurant facilities as well as optional upgrade to a chalet is available, camping included.

Day 35      15 Aug 2021      +- 440 km

We travel via Lusaka and overnight again close to Monze.

Day 36      16 Aug 2021      +- 300 km

Heading south east towards Livingstone and camp at the Bushfront campsite. Optional afternoon microlight flights over Vic falls, a sundowner cruise on the Zambezi, or a visit to the impressive Royal Livingstone Hotel might be on the cards. Since it is our last evening together, we will all have dinner together (excluding drinks) at a local Indian restaurant in Livingstone. Those who wish can join me on my travels back home the following day through Botswana.
